Cutting Paolo Nutini’s Hair in Sydney.
Over the years of working as a hairdresser, you meet people from every walk of life. Some are local clients from Byron Bay and the Northern Rivers, others are travelling artists passing through Australia. Occasionally, someone well -known sits in the chair.
When Paolo Nutini was last in Sydney, I had the pleasure of looking after his hair. Paolo is known worldwide for his soulful voice and relaxed style, and he wanted his hair cut shorter while keeping the natural texture and movement.
My approach has always been precision dry haircutting. Instead of cutting wet hair and hoping it falls into place later, I shape the hair as it naturally sits. This technique works especially well for musicians and performers who want their hair to look effortless on stage and in everyday life.
For Paolo’s haircut ,we focused on:
Working with his natural texture
Removing weight while keeping movement
Creating a shorter, easy-to-wear shape
A style that would grow out naturally
About a year later I happened to catch up with him again in London, which brought back memories of the Sydney haircut and the easy conversation we shared during that visit.
After more than 35 years in the industry, including working as an educator and Art Director with Toni & Guy in London, I have learned that the best haircuts come from listening carefully and working with the natural behaviour of the hair.
Today I work between Byron Bay, the Northern Rivers and Sydney, offering private one-to-one appointments either in a discreet studio or as a mobile hairdressing service.
If you are looking for a natural dry haircut that works with your hair rather than against it, you are welcome to book an appointment.
